My favourite chenin blanc is the Woolworths Private Collection Chenin from Spier. I ordered the 21 Gables in the hope that it would be the same wine. Whilst this is great I still prefer the Woolworths.

I would describe this wine as a brilliant full bodied wine with bold fruity flavours. The description is not normally fitting for a Chenin Clanc which is what I think makes this wine so special.
It was an instant favourite after tasting it at Eight Restaurant at Spier and I had to get a case just incase the next year doesn't follow suit!
Pale gold with lemon rind rim. Soft dried apricots with an oak and vanilla undertow. White fleshed peaches, almond paste, and windfall oranges.
Grapes were hand-harvested in 10kg lug boxes and pre-cooled before hand sorting, destemming and crushing. Skin contact was limited to 4 hours and the free run juice drained off to settle overnight before inoculation. The fermentation took place in 400 liter barrels. The wine matured for 14 months in 400 liter French barrels, of which 75% new and 25% second fill.
WHEN TO DRINK
Enjoy with Crisp Pork Belly with oriental caramelisation, Duck breast with fynbos honey and spices, Cape-style pickled fish.
